Database server requirements

The database server used to store the Meridian Enterprise Data Library or Explorer repositories must have one of the following database management systems installed and meet the system requirements of that DBMS.

• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (recommended) with latest service pack and updates. The Full Text Search component is not installed by default, but recommended.

Notes

• SQL Server Express editions are not supported for production use. The Full Text Search component is only included in SQL Server Express with Advanced Services.
• Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 provides a FILESTREAM feature for higher performance that we recommend and is enabled by default during repository creation. Before using this feature, we strongly recommend that you fully understand the advantages, limitations, and implications of the feature by studying the Microsoft SQL Server documentation. • If synchronizing the Meridian Explorer repository results in errors that read SqlException ; Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding for large documents, try reducing the setting of the WriteBufferUnits value of the following registry key until the errors stop. The number must be between 1 and 1240 (default).

• Oracle 11g. Oracle Text component is not installed by default, but recommended.

The hardware specifications of the database server should carefully consider the anticipated database size and user load. The following are the minimum hardware specifications:

• Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition (with latest service pack and updates)
• 8 GB RAM (or higher)
